Saudi Arabia’s Support for Palestinians in the Midst of Escalating Israel-Gaza Conflict

As the Israel-Gaza conflict intensifies, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, has reaffirmed the kingdom’s commitment to the Palestinian cause.

The Saudi state media reported early Tuesday that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had conveyed his efforts to prevent the “expansion” of the conflict to Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas.

In a statement, the Crown Prince reiterated Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people, emphasizing their legitimate rights to a dignified life, the realization of their hopes and aspirations, and the attainment of a just and lasting peace. This declaration was reported by the official Saudi Press Agency.

The recent surprise attack by Hamas, involving ground, air, and sea assaults, has led to a rising death toll in Israel, with 800 casualties counted so far. In response, Israel has initiated a relentless series of airstrikes on Gaza, resulting in a tragic increase in the death toll, which now stands at 687.

Amid speculation that Saudi Arabia might consider normalizing ties with Israel, contingent on security guarantees from the United States and assistance in developing a civilian nuclear program, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had addressed the importance of the Palestinian issue last month. He stressed the need to alleviate the hardships faced by the Palestinian people.

However, the ongoing conflict has significantly complicated any prospects for normalization, as analysts note. The Crown Prince has also engaged in discussions regarding the crisis, holding phone conversations with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II, as reported by SPA.
