Tejas Box Office Collection Day 1: Kangana Ranaut’s Film Takes a Slow Start, Earning Rs 1.25 Crore

The much-anticipated Kangana Ranaut-starrer, Tejas, which features her in the role of a fighter pilot, experienced a sluggish start on its opening day. The film struggled to draw audiences, with limited interest in the morning and early afternoon shows. It only showed a marginal improvement in attendance during the evening and night shows. According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, Tejas managed to earn approximately Rs 1.25 crore on its first day.

Notably, the three major national cinema chains – PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis – contributed around Rs 85 lakh, which accounted for 60 percent of Tejas’s total day-one box office earnings, as reported by Bollywood Hungama. The overall Hindi occupancy for the film stood at 6.83%, which is a cause for concern. Given this tepid opening, Tejas now faces the challenge of attracting more viewers over the weekend to stay afloat.

As things currently stand, Tejas runs the risk of becoming Kangana Ranaut’s fifth consecutive Hindi-language film that underperforms, following Dhaakad (2022) with an opening of Rs 0.55 crore, Thalaivi (2021) with an opening of Rs 0.32 crore, Panga (2020), and Judgementall Hai Kya (2019). Kangana’s last successful box office outing was the historical drama Manikarnika in 2019. Her most recent appearance was in the Tamil-language film Chandramukhi 2.

Notably, another military drama produced by RSVP Movies, Uri: The Surgical Strike, had an impressive opening day in 2019, earning Rs 8.20 crore.

Critics have commented on Tejas’s tendency to place the main star, Kangana Ranaut, in the spotlight while sidelining other characters. The film’s narrative focuses on Tejas and her co-pilot (Anshul Chauhan), with moments of humor and camaraderie. However, it’s evident that Tejas is the one driving the story forward.
