In response to the notice issued by the court to demolish several colonies within the Jharoda ward of #Burari Assembly, residents have taken to the streets, alleging a political conspiracy behind the government’s demolition drive.

Residents of Burari Assembly vehemently opposed the demolition of their homes, causing a massive traffic jam on Mukarba Chowk, Wazirabad Ring Road. The situation involved a substantial police presence as people claimed that they were initially settled in the area under a political scheme and are now facing eviction orders.

The affected colonies, residing under the Jharoda ward of Burari Assembly, received notices for demolition from the court. Fearing homelessness, thousands gathered for a protest on the outer Ring Road, highlighting their grievances. Allegations suggest that the government initially settled people in these colonies, only to later order their demolition through the Building Department.

Most residents in the Jharoda ward have lived in these colonies for several years, with claims that politicians made false promises during elections about regularizing the colonies. Despite ongoing festivals, the looming threat of losing their homes has left residents uncertain about their future.

In response, legislator Sanjeev Jha has indicated that he may approach the High Court or Supreme Court to seek relief for the affected residents. The legal process and potential solutions to address the issue are yet to be clarified.

Residents accuse local landlords of selling off the gram sabha land without disclosing its ownership, leading to the impending demolition of the colonies.
