New Delhi: Mild tremors rattled parts of Northern India, particularly Delhi, following a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan. The seismic activity was also felt in Pakistan.
The National Center for Seismology reported, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.1, Occurred on 11-01-2024, 14:50:24 IST, Lat: 36.48 & Long: 70.45, Depth: 220 Km, Location: Afghanistan.”

The earthquake’s epicenter was situated 241 km northeast of Kabul. Initial reports indicated no casualties or injuries resulting from the tremors.
Videos posted on social media captured the panic and horror among people in Delhi-NCR and Northern India as buildings and furniture shook during the quake.
Earthquakes are a common occurrence in Afghanistan, particularly in the western and central regions, caused by the interaction of the Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
