New Delhi: 9th September 2024
In September 2024, India will face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series. The first game of the series will take place on September 19 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, followed by the second on Saturday, September 27 at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium.
On Sunday, September 8, the BCCI announced the 16-man squad for the first Test, which featured Rishabh Pant for the first time since his catastrophic car accident on December 30, 2020.
Superstar batsman Virat Kohli has also returned to the red-ball squad after missing the five-match series against England earlier in the year, although Devdutt Padikkal, who made a strong start for the Rohit Sharma-led team in Dharamsala against England, was left off the roster.
Following a 21-month absence, Rishabh Pant has rejoined India’s Test squad. On December 25, 2022, the 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman played his last red-ball match for India against Bangladesh in Mirpur.
Virat Kohli, who skipped the five-match Test series versus England owing to the birth of his second kid, is also available for the opening Test against Bangladesh. KL Rahul was also picked to the 16-member squad. The 32-year-old played the opening Test against England in Hyderabad but was sidelined for the next four matches due to injury.
In addition to them, RCB pacer Yash Dayal received his first Test call-up. The left-arm pacer took three wickets in the second inning for India B versus India A in the Duleep Trophy 2024 match on Sunday.
OUT: Padikkal, Rajat Patidar, Mukesh Kumar, and KS Bharat have been withdrawn from India’s Test team for the first Test against Bangladesh. Padikkal made 65 runs off 103 balls in India’s last red-ball match against England, while Patidar, Mukesh, and Bharat each played one game in the India-England series.
