Patna, September 19, 2024:

An Inter-Religious Conference and Festival was held at Navjyoti Niketan, Patna, organized by the Chavara Cultural Centre, New Delhi, in collaboration with the Patna Archdiocese. The event, themed “Journeying Together to Promote Peace and Harmony: Scope and Challenges in the Light of Different Faiths and Traditions in India,” aimed to bring together people of different faiths to promote peace and unity in a world troubled by division and conflict.

The event began with a prayer, followed by a keynote address from Dr. Fr. Josey Mathias, SJ. He stressed the importance of cooperation and understanding between religious communities in building a peaceful future.

A key part of the event was a panel discussion led by Adv. Sr. Cynthia C.J., Secretary of Chirag Education, Culture, and Health Awareness Centre, Buxar. Representatives from seven major religions participated, sharing their views on peace and compassion:

Jainism: Dr. Manju Bala

Christianity: Dr. Isidore Dominic

Hinduism: Dr. Navin Kumar

Islam: Advocate Mohamad Kashif Yunus

Sikhism: Sri Singhji Maharaj

Baháʼí Faith: Mr. Rajnish

Each speaker focused on the common values of love, non-violence, and the importance of working together across faiths to address today’s challenges.

The Chief Guest, Archbishop Sebastian Kallupura of Patna, delivered an inspiring speech calling for greater interfaith cooperation. He emphasized that unity in diversity is essential for peace and urged everyone to work together for the good of society.

The program also featured cultural performances, including traditional songs and dances, which highlighted the theme of unity through diversity.

The event ended with a vote of thanks and a shared commitment from all participants to continue their efforts toward building a more peaceful and harmonious society.

The event was led by Rev. Dr. Roby Kannanchira CMI, Director of Chavara Cultural Centre, New Delhi, and Rev. Fr. James Rosario, Secretary of the Inter-Religious and Ecumenism Commission, Patna Archdiocese, with support from Dr. Lawrence, Fr. Pranoy, IMS, Adv. Sr. Cynthia CJ, and Mr. Ajit Julius, SJ. Their collaboration made this interfaith gathering a significant step toward a more united India.
