The legendary Murlikant Petkar story, India’s first Paralympic gold medalist, came to life in Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment chief Sajid Nadiadwala’s big screen effort. Padmashri Petekar received the Arjuna Award (Lifetime) 52 years after his achievements.
Speaking of this award, Murlikanth said, “I truly feel humbled and honored being the recipient of the Arjuna award for a lifetime. Winning this recognition is a great achievement for me personally, more importantly, a crowning glory for all those remarkable ‘dreamers’ who believed in me and worked with me. My heartfelt thanks go to Sajid Nadiadwala ji, for supporting my story and backing it financially for the movie Chandu Champion to come alive on screen. It made a huge difference. Also a big thanks to Kabir Khan for adding the most authentic touch to directing my journey on the big stage. And to Kartik, who brought my story to life as it should have. Moment belongs to the entire team of Chandu Champion along with me. My gratitude to the entire team for making this a movie that would be an inspiration for countless people across the country with my story.”
An all-rounder in sports, Petkar competed in multifarious disciplines until he found his calling in para-swimming, standing tall like a true epitome of historic achievements and bravery.
