Actor shares emotional video detailing 5 years of torment after #MeToo revelations; says health has deteriorated, plans police complaint
New Delhi, July 23, 2025
Tanushree Dutta, an actress who helped spark India’s #MeToo movement in 2018, has released a gut-wrenching video claiming that she has been subject to ongoing harassment at her residence in Mumbai for several years.
In the video, Dutta cries while describing the ordeal, alleging unknown people made her living conditions unbearable by sending maids to “steal and create chaos,” nagging her with loud noises during the sanctity of late hours, and said to poor mental harass her. “I’ve been tortured so much in the last 4–5 years that my health has completely collapsed. I’ve developed Chronic Fatigue Syndrome due to the stress,” she said. The actor also said she plans to file a police complaint soon.
Dutta, who can be seen chanting Hindu mantras in the clip to cope with the distress, believes this sustained harassment is retaliation for her past accusations against actor Nana Patekar and director Vivek Agnihotri both of whom denied the allegations and were eventually cleared. She alleged that her building society had responded to multiple complaints regarding the disturbances, adding to the stress of her problems.
The video has had varied reaction on social media. Some questioned when and why the disclosures happened, but a good number praised Dutta for her courage and resilience after so long with trauma.
The police spokesperson said they are waiting for her formal complaint before proceeding with their investigation. In the meantime, Dutta’s statement has reignited the conversation about the protections for whistleblowers and the mental health of those victims in the entertainment world.
