Parliament Monsoon Session Begins Over Heated Row on Operation Sindoor and Trump’s Comments
The Monsoon Session of Parliament started with drama as members of Parliament engaged in heated debate over Operation Sindoor, a military action India’s response to terror attacks in Pahalgam and U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim to have facilitated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. The government termed Trump’s statement “baseless,” while the opposition demanded an official clarification from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju assured that the Centre is open to a full debate on Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 civilian lives. Meanwhile, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi led the charge, criticizing the government for an alleged intelligence lapse and questioning why PM Modi hasn’t addressed Trump’s remarks publicly. “This is not just a military matter; it’s about our national dignity,” Gogoi said.

The government maintained that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will soon issue a detailed statement highlighting the success of Operation Sindoor in neutralizing terror camps across the Line of Control.
Amid the national security debates, tensions also flared over the revision of Bihar’s voter rolls, with opposition parties alleging mass disenfranchisement. NDA allies, including the JD(U), defended the revision as a necessary cleanup.

Seventeen bills are expected to be tabled during the session, including major economic reform legislation. Rijiju called for cooperation from all sides, stating, “Smooth functioning of Parliament is what the nation expects.”

With security concerns and geopolitical tensions at the forefront, this session is set to be one of the most closely watched in recent years.
