Anasuya SenGupta, who scripted history at the Cannes Film Festival, dedicates her award to the ‘queer community’
The 77th Cannes Film Festival has been a momentous occasion for Indian cinema. After Payal Kapadia’s film ‘All We Imagine As Light’ won the Grand Prix, Anasuya SenGupta has now made history by winning the Best Actress award for her performance in the film ‘The Shameless’.
Elated by her win as the first Indian actress to receive this award, Anasuya SenGupta expressed her emotions in a recent interview.
She said, “I am grateful to the jury for recognizing my hard work. I couldn’t believe this was happening to me. When I went on stage, there were all the artists I admire present. I felt great to be welcomed by them.”
Anasuya has been receiving an outpouring of congratulatory messages and good wishes from across the country. On this, she said, “I am overwhelmed by the love and support of so many people. It is a matter of pride for me to make everyone proud.”
She further dedicated her award to the ‘queer community’, saying, “This award is for all those who are fighting for equality and justice.”
It is noteworthy that Anasuya was awarded the Best Actress award in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section for her brilliant performance in the film ‘The Shameless’. The film is directed by Bulgarian filmmaker Constantin Bojanov.
Many celebrities, including Ranveer Singh, Bhumi Pednekar, Huma Qureshi, Alia Bhatt, Kiara Advani, and Arjun Kapoor, have congratulated Anasuya on her achievement.
