Sweeper Jobs in Haryana Attract Over 1 Lakh Applicants, Highlighting Employment Crisis

More than a lakh applicants have applied for sweeper jobs in Haryana government agencies. This increase emphasizes how competitive the job market is and raises questions regarding the transparency and compensation of contractual positions.

New Delhi: 4th September 2024

The role involves sweeping offices of government departments, boards, businesses, and civic bodies in Haryana. There are open positions; no number is specified. Monthly salary is Rs. 15, 000. Over 6,000 postgraduates, close to 40,000 graduates, and 1.2 lakh individuals with only a class 12 education are among the applicants.

An overwhelming number of highly educated candidates have applied for the contract position of sweeper through the state government’s outsourcing agency, Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam Limited (HKRN), in what some may describe as a desperate attempt to land the coveted stability of a government job and others see as a stark reflection of a contracting job market.

Approximately one lakh people applied for the position between August 6 and September 2.

Candidates are from a variety of backgrounds. Among them are postgraduate student Manish Kumar, who holds a diploma in business studies, and his teacher-wife, Roopa.

Opposition parties have expressed their disapproval of the state of affairs. In addition, there are allegations of non-transparency, insufficient compensation, job insecurity, and lack of reservation for different groups against HKRN. The Haryana Congress accused the BJP government of ignoring the unemployment situation and cited the volume of applications as evidence.
