A solemn tribute ceremony marked the 140th birth anniversary of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, India’s first President, at his statue near Parliament House in New Delhi. The event was organized by the Rajendra Chintan Samiti in collaboration with the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). Dignitaries, cultural figures, and citizens gathered to honor the life and legacy of this iconic leader, offering floral tributes and reflecting on his remarkable contributions to the nation.
Prominent attendees included former Haryana Chief Minister Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda, MP and actor Ravi Kishan, former Delhi Minister Shri Somnath Bharti, and NDMC Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Chahal. Notable individuals such as poet Shivkumar Bilgrami, retired IAS officer Suresh Kumar Bhandari, author Dr. Darshini Priya, and journalist Haider Ali Ashrafi were honored with mementos for their contributions to society.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda highlighted Dr. Prasad’s pivotal role in shaping modern India, emphasizing his dedication to truth and democracy. “Dr. Rajendra Prasad’s leadership gifted us the Constitution and a robust democratic foundation. His principles are a guiding light for India’s progress,” he remarked.
MP Ravi Kishan paid his respects, stating, “Dr. Prasad’s sacrifice and service inspire us to strive for a better India. His life is a beacon of dedication.”
Dr. Yoganand Shastri, President of the Rajendra Chintan Samiti and former Delhi Assembly Speaker, lauded Dr. Prasad’s embodiment of Indian values. “His life, rooted in simplicity and discipline, accomplished extraordinary feats. He remains an eternal source of inspiration,” he said.
Vijayshankar Chaturvedi, Vice President of the Rajendra Chintan Samiti, emphasized the late President’s lifelong commitment to the nation, from the freedom struggle to his Presidential tenure. “The best way to honor him is by following the path he laid out for us,” he stated.
Shri Somnath Bharti and NDMC Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Chahal echoed similar sentiments, praising Dr. Prasad’s ideals and their relevance in contemporary society. “His values remind us to contribute meaningfully to our country,” Chahal added.
Honoree Suresh Kumar Bhandari reflected on Dr. Prasad’s simplicity and leadership, urging citizens to uphold his principles. Journalist Haider Ali Ashrafi noted that Dr. Prasad’s life remains a timeless source of inspiration.
The event was attended by members of various social and cultural organizations, who pledged to carry forward Dr. Prasad’s legacy. Coordinators of the Rajendra Chintan Samiti, including Pankaj Sharma, Monika Sharma, and Mrs. Devyani, expressed gratitude to all participants for their support in making the ceremony a success.
