HRDS India Condemns Unrest, Attacks on Police and Property Damage; Stresses Rule of Law and National Unity
New Delhi: HRDS INDIA has expressed serious concern over the incidents of violence, vandalism and injuries to security personnel reported during the recent Gen Z-led protests in the national capital. The organisation strongly condemned the disruption of public order, attacks on law enforcement officials and damage caused to public and private property.
According to official statements released by the Delhi Police, a section of protesters allegedly engaged in aggressive and unlawful activities, including stone-pelting, assaults on police personnel, vandalism of official vehicles and widespread unrest. The incidents resulted in injuries to several police officers, including senior officials and women personnel, while also leading to damage to public and private assets.
HRDS INDIA has firmly condemned all forms of violence, attacks against those entrusted with maintaining public safety and acts of property destruction. The organisation stated that such actions are unacceptable in a democratic society and cannot be justified under any circumstances.
Reaffirming the values of India’s constitutional democracy, HRDS INDIA highlighted that the rule of law remains the foundation of the nation’s governance system. Every citizen, including students and young people, has the fundamental right to express concerns and participate in peaceful protests through lawful and democratic channels. The organisation respects and supports the right of students to present their aspirations and grievances in a responsible and constructive manner.
However, HRDS INDIA emphasised that when demonstrations escalate into violence, stone-pelting, vandalism or attacks on police personnel, they move beyond the scope of democratic expression and become a threat to public order and constitutional governance. The organisation stressed that no demand, cause or movement can supersede the importance of law, peace and social harmony. Maintaining law and order is essential to safeguarding citizens’ rights and ensuring the country’s continued progress.
HRDS INDIA welcomed the government’s initiatives aimed at addressing concerns related to youth, including measures communicated directly to young citizens regarding strict action against examination paper leaks and the introduction of fast-track courts. The organisation also appreciated the efforts of security agencies in safeguarding citizens and protecting public assets while carrying out their responsibilities in challenging situations.
Reiterating its commitment to peace, constitutional values, national unity and constructive nation-building, HRDS INDIA called upon all stakeholders to reject violence in every form, protect public property, remain vigilant against external interference and resolve differences through dialogue, democratic engagement and the principles of the rule of law.
