NEW DELHI: Women residents are playing a leading role in bringing the community together for the sixth year of Sarbojanin Sri Sri Durga Puja in Delhi’s Kidwai Nagar East.
The Kidwai Nagar East Sarbojanin Puja Committee is organising the celebrations under the aegis of Kidwai Nagar East Bangiya Samity (Regd.). Running from October 16 to 21, the festival is being held at the Type-V, Hanuman Mandir premises in New Delhi.
The event combines traditional rituals with cultural programmes, giving families and devotees an opportunity to celebrate together.
Sumana Roy and Indira Upadhyay Highlight Inclusion
Sumana Roy, president of the committee, said Durga Puja creates opportunities for people to come together beyond religious rituals.
She highlighted the festival’s role in helping families and neighbours share traditions, spend time together and build stronger community connections.
Indira Upadhyay, vice president, said the committee aims to make every visitor feel welcome. She added that the rituals and cultural performances bring different generations together through shared celebrations.

Collective Effort Keeps Community Traditions Alive
Subhash Chandra Ghosh, general secretary, said organising the annual puja requires the combined efforts of committee members and the participation of residents.
He noted that the community’s enthusiasm and involvement make the work meaningful.
The programme includes pushpanjali, aarti, prasad and bhog distribution, alongside cultural performances. These activities allow participants to engage with the festival’s religious and cultural traditions.
First-Time Attendees Join the Celebrations
Sourav and Riya, who attended Durga Puja in Delhi for the first time, described the celebrations as an opportunity to experience Bengali traditions in a community setting.
Sourav said he enjoyed the performances and the atmosphere created by the gathering. Riya also appreciated the cultural programme and the chance to experience the traditions up close.

Festival Calendar Continues into 2027
The committee has planned additional celebrations after Durga Puja. Sri Sri Kojagari Lakshmi Puja will be held on October 25, Kali Puja on November 8, 2026, and Saraswati Puja on February 11, 2027.
The sixth-year Durga Puja celebration will conclude on October 21, with residents and visitors invited to join the remaining rituals and cultural programmes.
