Opposition uproar halts Lok Sabha over Pahalgam attack, Trump’s remarks, and Bihar voter revision
New Delhi: 21 July 2025
The Monsoon Session of Parliament began with spectacle when opposition parties cause disruptions that lead the Lok Sabha to be adjourned till 12 noon. The commotion included a focus on the Government’s actions related to Operation Sindoor, the Pahalgam terror attack, and the US’s undiplomatic mediation assertions. President Donald Trump.
As soon as the session began, opposition MPs stormed the well of the House, shouting slogans and demanding immediate debate. Their concerns included alleged intelligence lapses before the deadly Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians, and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists underway in Bihar accused of irregularities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in pre-session comments, hailed Operation Sindoor as a “100% success,” stating that Indian forces neutralized terror camps across the border in a precision strike lasting just 22 minutes. However, opposition leaders questioned why such an attack occurred in the first place and demanded accountability from the Prime Minister himself not just the Defence Minister.
In the Lok Sabha, Speaker Om Birla urged MPs to maintain order, noting, “The House is for debate, not sloganeering,” before adjourning proceedings. Over in the Rajya Sabha, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and CPI’s Sandosh Kumar P invoked Rule 267 to press for urgent discussion on the government’s silence over Trump’s repeated claims of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan claims the Indian government has firmly denied.
The government has promised a statement by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, but opposition parties are holding firm in their demand for a direct response from the Prime Minister.
