New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released its team rankings for the year, showing major changes in the world cricket order. Australia continues to dominate Test cricket, but India has established its dominance in the One Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20 cricket as well. The rankings are computed based on matches until May 2025, with full weightage assigned to games in the last year and half-weightage to games in the last two years.

Australia Remains on Top in Tests

Australia maintains its position at the top of the ICC Test Rankings with 126 rating points. This is the result of regular performances, such as a 3-1 win against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and a 2-0 Test series victory in Sri Lanka. The Aussies have also booked their spot in the ICC World Test Championship final for the second time in a row, reaffirming their supremacy in the red-ball format.

England holds the second spot with 113 rating points, narrowly edging out South Africa, which follows closely with 111 points. India, which was formerly among the top three, has plummeted to fourth place with 105 points after losing two consecutive series. New Zealand at five with 95 points, followed by Sri Lanka (87), Pakistan (78), the West Indies (73), Bangladesh (62), and Ireland (30), who round out the top 10.

India dominates in ODIs and T20s.

Despite a drop in Test rankings, Team India remains strong in the shorter formats of the game. India now leads the ODI rankings with 124 rating points. New Zealand and Australia share 109 points but are second and third, respectively, because of decimal points. Sri Lanka and Pakistan have 104 points, standing fourth and fifth. South Africa (96), Afghanistan (91), England (84), West Indies (83), and Bangladesh (76) trail in the top ten.

In T20 Internationals, India has further cemented its supremacy with a dominating 271 rating points. Australia is second with 262 points, and England is third with 254. New Zealand (249) and the West Indies (246) are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively. South Africa (245), Sri Lanka (235), Pakistan (228), Bangladesh (225), and Afghanistan (223) make up the top ten.

Sri Lanka’s Rise and Australia’s Overall Strength

Sri Lanka has improved significantly across all formats, particularly in ODIs, where it presently sits fourth. Meanwhile, Australia remains the only team ranked in the top three across all formats, demonstrating its balanced strength and consistent success.

These rankings show the changing dynamics of international cricket, with India dominating white-ball and Australia excelling in Tests. With upcoming series and ICC events, these standings may change even more in the following months.
