After Educating Over 23,000 Adults, State Becomes a Beacon in India’s March Toward 100% Literacy by 2030
New Delhi, June 24, 2025
In a historic development, Tripura has been officially named a fully literate state, becoming the third state in India to achieve this status, after Mizoram and Goa. This was announced by the Union Ministry of Education during an event at Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala.
Chief Minister Manik Saha described this as a proud moment for Tripura and seen as a milestone to achieve the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the year 2047. The achievement followed the successful completion of literacy programs designed to educate over 23,184 formerly illiterate adults.
Education officials noted that while the literacy status was an important achievement, the focus must now shift toward continuing education, and digital literacy to empower citizens long term in an ever-changing knowledge economy.
The journey was supported heavily through the central government’s financial assistance and organizational assistance. Tripura’s achievements are the result of a strong collaborative approach, and support from the central government and complements the national goal of 100 percent literacy by 2030 in India.
This not only remains a momentous milestone of educational achievement in Tripura, it provides another pathway for other states in India to invigorate and build on literacy programs while promoting inclusive development.
