Honors top MBBS graduates, unveils new super-specialty block; historic event boosts Jharkhand’s medical education landscape

In a first for Jharkhand’s medical education system, President Droupadi Murmu will be conducting the first-ever convocation ceremony of AIIMS Deoghar today. The ceremony marks the graduation of the institution’s first MBBS batch, with the President presenting degrees and awarding nine top-performing students, of which four are gold medalists. Set up in 2019 under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), AIIMS Deoghar has rapidly developed as a health center, treating more than five million patients every year in the Santhal Pargana area. To commemorate this momentous event, the institute also opens a new 500-bed super-specialty block, which will augment its high-tech care facilities. Security measures across Deoghar have been tightened, with drone surveillance and multi-layered barricades along the President’s route.
The convocation will be followed by President Murmu’s visit to IIT-ISM Dhanbad tomorrow, where she will grace the 45th convocation during the institute’s centenary celebrations. Twenty gold medalists will be honored for academic excellence in science and engineering disciplines.
During her speeches at both functions, President Murmu will underline India’s progress in medical education, scientific research, and regional growth, with a focus on eastern India. The ceremonies will be telecast nationally live, giving the country a peep at the advancement of its top institutions.
