Vasundhara Raje Meets Yogi as UP Assembly Readies for AI-Powered Monsoon Session

Political courtesy call comes as Uttar Pradesh becomes first state to deploy AI surveillance in legislature.

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje met Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Sunday, ahead of the state’s Monsoon Session beginning August 11. The meeting, held at the Vidhan Sabha, is being seen as politically significant amid the BJP’s organisational push ahead of upcoming elections.

Earlier in the day, CM Adityanath inaugurated the newly renovated Assembly dome and facilities, unveiling India’s first AI-powered legislative surveillance system. With facial recognition cameras, the system will identify MLA attendance and activities during sessions.Originally implemented as a pilot in the Monsoon Session, it is hoped to be up-and-running for the Winter Session, and improve transparency and accountability.

Chaired by Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, an all-party assembly comprised of leaders including Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey and Congress MLA Aradhana Mishra met to work out a session agenda regulations, and resolutions for both governance, infrastructure and law-and-order situation.

While the meeting was publically her visit was described as a courtesy, her stature within the BJP has led to speculation about political reasons. High-end introductions represent a shift combined with technological improvements towards a Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh cognizance in national politics.
