India and Pakistan Agree to Immediate Ceasefire: Trump Claims Credit
The agreement comes as a relief to the region after a period of intense military activity and fear of full-scale war.

New Delhi: Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, US President Donald Trump has made a major announcement. He asserted that both countries have reached an agreement for a complete and immediate ceasefire. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump revealed that the agreement came after extensive overnight negotiations facilitated by the United States. He congratulated both countries for showing wisdom and maturity in reaching the decision.
India Issues stern warning: Any future terrorist attack will be treated as an “act of war”
Meanwhile, the Indian government has made a critical announcement, declaring that any future terrorist attack on Indian soil will be treated as an act of war. This indicates that any such strike will result in a military reaction from India. The message is clear—India will respond with full seriousness and force to any act of aggression.
Trump’s Claim – Ceasefire Agreement Achieved Through US Mediation
Donald Trump stated, “I’m happy to share that India and Pakistan have reached a complete and immediate ceasefire after overnight talks facilitated by the United States. “I commend both countries for their wisdom and foresight.”
Direct Talks Between Indian and Pakistani DGMOs
According to sources, both nations made direct efforts to stop cross-border shelling. Reportedly, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) from Pakistan initiated a conversation with Indian officials on Saturday afternoon, which led to mutual agreement on a ceasefire. However, there has been no decision to discuss other issues at this time.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Confirms Mediation
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed the development. He said, “Over the past 48 hours, Vice President JD Vance and I have spoken with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir, and other senior officials. I’m pleased to announce that both countries have agreed to broad talks at a neutral location.”
Statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Minister
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also confirmed the ceasefire via a post on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, “India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire. Pakistan has always remained committed to regional peace and security, provided our sovereignty and territorial integrity are not compromised.”
Background of Tensions – Operation Sindoor and Its Aftermath
The ceasefire agreement comes in the wake of heightened tensions following India’s “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, during which Indian forces targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan. In retaliation, Pakistan allegedly attempted to target 15 Indian cities. This sharp escalation prompted the US to urge both nations to restore dialogue and de-escalate tensions.
US Had Previously Offered to Mediate
Earlier, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce had stated that the United States was ready to facilitate talks between India and Pakistan. Secretary Rubio had also advised both countries to find peaceful means to lower the current tensions.
While an official response from the Indian government is still awaited, the US announcement clearly signals that global powers are once again playing an active role in promoting peace and stability in South Asia.
