In celebration of National Doctors Day, the National Medical Forum and the Press Club of India (PCI) partnered to organize a free comprehensive medical checkup for the members of the Press Club of India. The event, conducted by Sanjeevan Hospital, witnessed the participation of over 200 journalists.
The comprehensive medical checkup covered a wide range of health concerns, including Hypertension, Diabetes, Obesity, Heart Disease, ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat), Joint Pain, and Surgical Checkup. Additionally, diagnostic tests such as Blood Sugar, Hemoglobin (Hb), ECG (Electrocardiogram), Eye Examination, and Dental Checkup were conducted.
During the press conference, Dr. Prem Agrawal, President of the National Medical Forum, addressed the growing epidemic of coronary artery disease in India, particularly in urban areas. He highlighted a concerning trend, stating, “About 25% of people who suffer from heart disease in India are less than 40 years old, and approximately 50% of those who die from heart attacks are less than 50 years old. Often, misdiagnosis and the absence of proper treatment contribute to the development of heart attacks or even death.” During this program, Delhi Medical Council (DMC) President Dr. Girish Tyagi, Lipid Association of India President Dr. Raman Puri, and retired Prof. of Medicine from Safdarjung Hospital Dr. Charanjit also shared their thoughts. Speaking about the issue of increasing cases of heart attacks among youth during the program, they emphasized the urgent need to take necessary steps to prevent them. Dr. Charanjit stated, “To prevent the rising cases of heart attacks among youth, it is crucial for everyone to come together collectively.”
In support of the initiative, Gautam Lehri, President, Press Club of India, said, “This collaborative effort between the National Medical Forum and the Press Club of India represents a significant step towards prioritizing the health of journalists, who play a crucial role in our society.”
To address this critical issue, the National Medical Forum has launched a 24/7 chest pain helpline, 1800-3096096. This helpline will be managed by senior consultants from Sanjeevan Hospital, offering expert guidance for the proper management of chest pain. Residents of Delhi experiencing chest pain can avail of this service free of cost, receiving immediate consultation to guide them to the nearest healthcare facility for appropriate treatment.
