New Delhi: India’s vast geography brings with it a striking diversity in weather conditions. While some regions are battling severe heat, others are experiencing thunderstorms and rain. Rajasthan’s temperatures have already crossed the 46°C mark, and Gujarat has recorded temperatures above 40°C in several areas. Similarly, Delhi and Haryana are grappling with intense sunlight and heatwave-like conditions.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi’s temperature is expected to touch 41°C on Monday, April 28, 2025. Meanwhile, eastern states like Bihar and West Bengal are bracing for thunderstorms and rainfall, offering some respite from the intense heat.

Key Highlights:

Rajasthan remained gripped by extreme heat, with maximum temperatures above the critical 46°C mark. Gujarat too is witnessing temperatures over 40°C. IMD has issued warnings for extremely hot conditions in Delhi and neighboring areas, where the mercury is set to climb beyond 40°C once again.

On the other hand, eastern India is set to experience relief as thunderstorms and rain are forecasted across Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, and parts of Northeast India. Several states experienced rain on Sunday, April 27, bringing down the temperatures slightly. Odisha had recorded temperatures between 42-43°C before thunderstorms brought some much-needed relief.

Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Expected

IMD has forecasted severe rainfall in isolated areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Odisha, citing pre-monsoon activity. Gusty winds blowing at speeds of 50-60 km/h are expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Odisha, Bihar, Eastern Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and North Karnataka.

Furthermore, Meghalaya, South Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Western Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Telangana, Rayalaseema, South Karnataka, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh are also at risk for thunderstorms and moderate to high winds (40–50 km/h). Delhi to Sizzle Again

After some respite following thunderstorms last week, Delhi’s temperatures are once again on the rise. Earlier, the capital had touched a scorching 43°C, leading to intense heatwave conditions. Now, IMD predicts that the temperature could reach up to 41°C today, subjecting residents to extreme heat.

Heatwave Continues in Rajasthan and Gujarat

Severe heatwave conditions persisted in Rajasthan last week, with temperatures ranging between 45°C and 46°C. Although mountain regions saw a temporary dip in temperatures due to rain and snowfall, the western plains are heating up once again. West Rajasthan and parts of Gujarat are particularly vulnerable, with areas close to the Pakistan border likely to experience severe heatwaves.
