Madhepura DM Declares Ramganj Initiative a Benchmark for North Bihar; Applauds Ramalaya Foundation and CSIR–NBRI for Scientific Leadership

During his field visit, the DM praised the Ramganj project as a pioneering model for scientific honey production and biodiversity restoration, highlighting its potential to transform rural livelihoods in North Bihar.

Madhepura District Magistrate Shri Taranjot Singh, IAS visited Ramganj village in Kumarkhand Block to review the ongoing Scientific Honey Bee Management & Biodiversity Restoration Project. The DM hailed the initiative as a groundbreaking effort that could shape North Bihar’s future in scientific beekeeping, ecological revival, and sustainable rural development.

He commended Ramalaya Foundation and its social enterprise Earth & Forest for spearheading the project with a focus on scientific training, environmental awareness, and livelihood enhancement. He also appreciated the dedication of Mr. Prashant Kumar, acknowledging his vision and commitment to reconnecting communities with nature through the Ramya initiative.

CSIR–NBRI’s Scientific Role Appreciated

The District Magistrate lauded CSIR–NBRI/NBRL, Lucknow, which is offering scientific leadership under the CSIR Floriculture Mission Phase-II.
He praised Principal Scientists Dr. Bikarma Singh and Dr. Sushil Kumar for delivering expert training in vegetation planning, pollination ecology, and scientific honeybee management, calling their contribution essential to the project’s success.

On-Ground Inspection by the DM

During the visit, the DM:

  • Addressed farmers and distributed training certificates
  • Interacted with villagers to understand their progress and challenges
  • Inspected honeybee box installations and biodiversity zones
  • Encouraged farmers to adopt scientific practices for better productivity and income stability

He emphasized that empowerment through scientific knowledge is key to building a strong and sustainable rural economy.

Departments Directed to Work in Coordination

The DM instructed various departments—including Agriculture, Horticulture, Forest, KVK, Jeevika, and the District & Block Administration—to extend full cooperation.
He urged all units to work collectively with Ramalaya Foundation and CSIR–NBRI to ensure smooth implementation and long-term impact.

A Vision for North Bihar’s Future

Shri Taranjot Singh highlighted that Ramganj has the potential to evolve into one of North Bihar’s most prominent scientific honey production clusters and biodiversity conservation hubs.
He assured complete administrative support for scaling and strengthening the initiative.

About the Project

The project, jointly implemented by Ramalaya Foundation’s Earth & Forest Social Enterprise and CSIR–NBRI, aims to:

  • Train 40 farmers in scientific beekeeping
  • Establish 200 honeybee boxes
  • Develop a model biodiversity zone supporting pollinator health and ecological restoration
