27th Kargil Vijay Diwas Observed with Patriotic Fervour, Martyrs Remembered and Martyrs’ Widows Honoured

Major Sanjay Mehrotra calls the sacrifices of India’s martyrs the nation’s greatest inspiration and urges every citizen to uphold the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat–Shreshtha Bharat’

New Delhi: In a solemn tribute to the extraordinary courage and supreme sacrifice of India’s armed forces, the Akhil Bharatiya Purv Sainik Seva Parishad (ABPSSP) commemorated the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas at Rajput Dharamshala, Kismat Nagar, Ambala Cantt. The event was organised to pay homage to the martyrs of the Kargil War, offer prayers to Bharat Mata, and honour the resilience, dignity and unwavering strength of martyrs’ widows. The ceremony drew a large gathering of ex-servicemen, martyrs’ widows and eminent citizens united in paying tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes.

The programme was coordinated by Captain Amarjeet Lal Sharma, Subedar Major Krishan Lal Sharma, Petty Officer Jagdeep Sharma, Matri Shakti President Usha Chandel, Santosh Sharma, Havildar K.P. Rana, and Subedar M.P. Singh, under the leadership of Colonel Himmat Singh Kaushal, Vice President, Haryana. Rajeev Sharma Ladi attended the event as the Chief Guest, while Major Sanjay Mehrotra, National Treasurer of Bharat Bharati, and Yagbalk Sharma, North India Coordinator, were the Guests of Honour. In their addresses, they highlighted the importance of patriotism, national unity and paying lasting tribute to the sacrifices of India’s armed forces.

A special tribute was paid to Kargil martyr Lance Naik Vijay Singh Kundu of Sundarpur village in Rohtak district, whose supreme sacrifice continues to inspire generations. Hundreds of ex-servicemen and martyrs’ widows joined in offering floral tributes in his memory. On the occasion, the martyr’s father, retired school teacher Shri Jeet Ram Kundu, along with Sarpanch Praveen Kumar, Nayak Yagbalk Sharma, Subedar Major Naresh Kumar, Subedar Major Balkishan Sharma and Havildar Balwan Singh, were specially invited and honoured during the ceremony.

The programme also featured a moving poetic tribute by former soldier and artist Yagbalk Sharma, dedicated to the life and supreme sacrifice of Lance Naik Vijay Singh Kundu. The emotional recital, inspired by the martyr’s courage and ultimate sacrifice, left the audience deeply moved and brought many to tears.

Speaking on the occasion, Major Sanjay Mehrotra underscored the importance of national integration, saying that India’s identity rises above regional divisions.

“We are not South Indians or North Indians—we are Indian South and Indian North. It is our responsibility to take the message of ‘Ek Bharat–Shreshtha Bharat’ to every citizen of this country.”

The speakers also urged young people to draw inspiration from the lives and sacrifices of the nation’s martyrs and dedicate themselves to national service, unity and nation-building.

Refreshments and a community lunch were served to all guests and ex-servicemen attending the programme. Several well-wishers also extended voluntary support to the event. Delhi-based social worker Anuj Garg contributed ₹2,100 in support of the programme as a mark of respect for the nation’s soldiers.

The programme concluded with the singing of the National Anthem and resounding chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” as participants reaffirmed their commitment to honouring the supreme sacrifices of the country’s martyrs and upholding the nation’s interests above all else.
