Dr K. A. Paul has urged authorities to improve police accountability, implement Supreme Court directions and ensure equal justice after an alleged attack on a minor in Andhra Pradesh
New Delhi:Ā Dr. K. A. Paul has called for faster investigations, stronger police accountability and equal treatment under the law following the alleged attack on a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Andhra Pradesh’s Raptadu area.
Paul, who heads the Global Peace Initiative and Praja Shanti Party, condemned the reported incident and demanded strict legal action against the accused. He also raised concerns about delays in the justice system and the implementation of laws meant to protect women and children.
Questions Delays in Investigation and Trials
In his statement on November 2, Paul questioned why crimes against women and girls continue despite the presence of stringent laws.
He said delays in police investigations, weak accountability and the backlog of court cases can affect timely justice and public confidence in the legal system.
He also stressed the importance of Article 14 of the Constitution, which guarantees equality before the law and equal protection of the laws. Paul said a person’s wealth, political position, caste or family background must not influence the legal process.
Calls for Implementation of Supreme Court Directions
Paul referred to the Supreme Court’s directions dated July 25, 2019, in Suo Motu Writ Petition (Criminal) No. 1 of 2019.
The directions concern the timely investigation and speedy trial of cases involving sexual offences against children under the POCSO Act.
He called for authorities to strengthen the implementation of dedicated special courts, monitoring by High Court committees and special police task forces.
Police Accountability and Victim Support
Paul also demanded action against police officers who fail to perform their duties or deliberately delay investigations. He said disciplinary measures and prosecution should follow wherever the circumstances warrant them.
He further called for stronger support systems for victims and their families. Women’s organisations, social activists and human rights groups, he said, should work together to provide legal assistance, protection and support.
Respect for Consent and Women’s Choices
The statement also highlighted the need to educate young people about consent and respect for women’s decisions.
Paul said no woman should face threats or violence for rejecting a relationship or marriage proposal. He called on parents to guide children about responsible behaviour, online activities and respect for others.
Appeals to Government and Public Institutions
Paul urged the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, chief ministers, state home ministers, judiciary, police leadership and Members of Parliament to take immediate steps to prevent violence against women and children.
He also called on media organisations and civil society groups to highlight cases of injustice and demand accountability.
Paul said India must ensure that women and children feel safe in their homes, schools and public spaces to build a peaceful and developed society.
