Is Mofusion's Copyright Claim Legit? Housefull 5 Producers File ₹25 Crore Defamation Suit

Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment demands immediate reinstatement of the teaser and damages after Mofusion’s copyright claim over “Laal Pari” prompts a YouTube takedown.

New Delhi: Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the production house behind the eagerly anticipated comedy Housefull 5, has initiated legal proceedings against YouTube and Mofusion Studios, seeking ₹25 crore in damages for defamation. The suit follows a copyright claim by Mofusion over the use of the song “Laal Pari” in the film’s teaser, which led the video-sharing platform to remove the promotional clip.

Honey Singh has signed a written declaration confirming his sole ownership of the rights to “Laal Pari“. Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment is one of the largest and most reputable production companies in Indian cinema. Removing the teaser of their grand, high-budget film without consultation was unfair.”

The notices, delivered on May 12, 2025, demand that YouTube immediately restore the Housefull 5 teaser to the Nadiadwala Grandsons’ official channel, which boasts over 1.6 million subscribers. Failing that, the makers have warned they will pursue the full ₹25 crore claim.

Representatives argue that, at minimum, YouTube should have verified the copyright claim with the producers before taking down the video. “The channel has never been accused of malpractice,” the source added, “yet their image has been dented by an unverified takedown.”

Housefull 5—directed by Tarun Mansukhani—stars an ensemble cast including Jackie Shroff, Sanjay Dutt, Nana Patekar, Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, and more, and is set to release on June 6, 2025. The controversy comes just weeks before its scheduled debut.
