New Delhi, July 30, 2025

The tragic murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Shillong is being adapted into a Bollywood film titled Honeymoon in Shillong. Announced by the victim’s family at a press conference in Indore, the movie aims to bring national attention to the chilling case, in which Raja’s wife Sonam is accused of plotting his death just days after their wedding.

Raja’s brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, shared the family’s decision to approve the project: “If we don’t bring my brother’s story to the public, the truth may remain buried.” The film will delve into the alleged conspiracy, highlighting how a romantic getaway turned into a meticulously planned murder. A very important piece of evidence like the gun that may have been brought to Shillong will take center stage in the film.

Sources from the production state that almost 80% of the film will be from Indore, with the remaining content filmed in Shillong, for authenticity. The cast has yet to be announced, although the screenplay will tell a compelling true story based on forensic/circumstantial evidence.

The true crime film will fall in line with Talvar and Rustom and highlights a growing trend in Bollywoods interest in true crime cases. However, legal sources caution any film may muddy the waters of Sonam’s ongoing trial. The Raghuvanshi family has reiterated they do not plan to glamorize anything, but rather to highlight it, and ensure that true justice occurs.
Production is expected to begin in early 2026, subject to court approvals.
