Model Y launched; EV giant begins operations from Bandra Kurla Complex
New Delhi: After years of waiting, Tesla has finally entered the Indian market with the launch of its first showroom in Mumbai. The electric vehicle giant is offering the Model Y, with on-road prices ranging from ₹61 to ₹69 lakh. But the big question remains can Indian consumers afford Tesla’s premium electric car? When people think of electric vehicles, Tesla is often the first name that comes to mind.
Yet until now, it was a brand Indians knew only from afar—one they heard about but never experienced directly.
That changed today, July 15, as Tesla inaugurated its very first showroom in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), a prominent business district in Mumbai.
Speaking at the launch, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said,
“I welcome Tesla to Mumbai. The opening of this experience center is a strong signal that Tesla has arrived—not just in India, but in the right city and the right state.”
He added that the arrival of Tesla is a moment of great pride for Maharashtra. The company is currently setting up its logistics and service infrastructure, and four major charging stations are also being installed.
“I’m pleased that Tesla chose Maharashtra as its entry point into India. Our state has taken a lead in electric mobility, and with Tesla launching the Model Y here, I’m confident Maharashtra will be a top contender when they decide to establish a manufacturing base in India,” he said.
