The Khan family has released a strongly-worded joint statement rejecting actor Faisal Khan’s recent allegations of being forcibly confined and misdiagnosed with schizophrenia. Signed by 14 relatives including Aamir Khan, his ex-wives Kiran Rao and Reena Dutta, and cousin Imran Khan the statement describes Faisal’s claims as a “hurtful and misleading portrayal” of their mother Zeenat Husain and sister Nikhat Hegde.

Faisal, who once appeared in films like Madhosh and recently on Bigg Boss, alleged in a recent interview that he was “imprisoned at home for a year” and kept in Mumbai’s JJ Hospital’s mental ward against his will. The family’s rebuttal insists that all actions regarding Faisal’s care were made collectively, after consulting multiple medical professionals, and were “based on love, compassion, and a desire to support his emotional and psychological wellbeing.”

While stating this is not the first time Faisal has misrepresented family issues publicly, the Khans have avoided revealing specific details about what they call “a painful and difficult period.” The united front underscored by the number and range of signatories reflects the seriousness with which they view the accusations.

The dispute has reignited conversations around mental health stigma and celebrity privacy. The Khans have begged for understanding from their supporters and have asked the media to refrain from sensationalism of what they stress is an intimately personal family matter.
