Technology Is Revolutionising Journalism, Says NDTV Managing Editor Akhilesh Sharma
New Delhi: Technology is rapidly changing the way journalism works, said Akhilesh Sharma, Managing Editor of NDTV, while addressing students at an expert session organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at MERI College, Janakpuri, on Thursday.
The session, titled “The Art of TV Anchoring and Career Opportunities”, was organised under the guidance of Prof. Lalit Aggarwal, Vice President of MERI Group of Institutions. Sharma spoke to BA (JMC) students about the changing media landscape, the role of technology in journalism and the skills required to build a career in television anchoring.
Sharma said mobile phones have become an important resource for journalists and have made news gathering and presentation more dynamic. He advised aspiring anchors to focus on confidence, pronunciation, voice modulation and presentation skills. He also stressed that an anchor must understand the context and sensitivity of a news event rather than simply reading a script.
Encouraging students to stay informed, Sharma advised them to make newspaper reading a regular habit. He also discussed various career opportunities available in television anchoring and journalism.
The programme concluded with an interactive Q&A session. Dr. S.K. Pandey, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, welcomed the speaker and audience. BA (JMC) Semester 3 students Kritika Gupta and Ridhima Tanwar moderated the session, while Prof. Sadanand Pandey delivered the vote of thanks.
