More than 100 research papers presented as scholars discuss Integral Humanism and Indian philosophy
Ahmedabad, Gujarat: Gujarat University witnessed the release of the Gujarati edition of Samarpan: Deendayal Upadhyaya, a book based on the life, dedication and contribution of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.
The university held the programme at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Auditorium. The event also included a one-day national seminar on Integral Humanism.
Scholars From Across India Take Part
The seminar brought together scholars, thinkers, researchers and senior academicians from different parts of the country.
Participants discussed Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s ideas and examined different aspects of his philosophy. Researchers presented over 100 research papers during the seminar.
The papers explored Integral Humanism and related subjects, including Indian culture, social harmony, nationalism, economic policy and human-centric development.
Author Chandan Kumar Shares Suggestion
Author Chandan Kumar said that his book has already been translated into several Indian languages.
He suggested that Gujarat University should publish the research papers presented at the seminar. He said publishing the papers would help more people understand Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s ideas and the philosophy of Integral Humanism.
Rupala Says Upadhyaya Offered an Indian Approach
Former Union Minister Purushottam Rupala described Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya as a major thinker of modern India.
He said Upadhyaya raised questions about the limitations of Western political thought during the early years of independent India. He then developed a framework that placed the Indian perspective at its centre.
Rupala discussed several Western ideologies, including individualism, capitalism, socialism, communism and nationalism. He said Integral Humanism takes a broader view by linking the individual, society and nation.
Focus on Harmony and Complementarity
Rupala said Upadhyaya’s philosophy does not treat the interests of individuals, society and the nation as opposing forces. Instead, it views them as complementary.
He also pointed to values such as dialogue, mutual affection, universal brotherhood and global unity in Indian philosophical thought. According to him, these ideas also find expression in Integral Humanism.
Gujarat University Vice-Chancellor Addresses Gathering
Gujarat University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jagdishbhai Joshi delivered the welcome address.
He said the participation of scholars and academicians from across India made the programme significant for Gujarat University.
Dr. Joshi said the university would discuss and examine the research papers presented during the seminar. He added that the sessions would help students understand Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s ideas and the wider foundations of Indian philosophy.
Youth and the Vision of India 2047
Dr. Joshi emphasised the role of young people in building the India of the future. He said a generation inspired by Indian thought and values can contribute to the vision of ‘India 2047 — A Great India, a Developed India.’
He thanked Prof. Dr. Hiteshbhai Patel, his team, faculty members, students and university staff for successfully organising the seminar.
He also said the addresses by the invited speakers provided participants with motivation, guidance and new perspectives.
Wide Range of Topics Discussed
The Department of Political Science organised the national seminar, which created a platform for researchers and scholars to exchange views on Integral Humanism.
More than 100 research papers addressed different dimensions of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s philosophy. The discussions also covered Indian culture, social harmony, nationalism, economic policy and human-centric development.
The event combined the release of the Gujarati edition of Samarpan: Deendayal Upadhyaya with a wider academic discussion on Indian thought and Integral Humanism.
