West Delhi Police are reaching senior citizens through home visits and expanding cyber safety awareness, patrolling and neighbourhood engagement

New Delhi: West Delhi Police have expanded their community outreach programme with door-to-door visits to senior citizens. The initiative aims to make residents more aware of crime trends and safety precautions while strengthening direct communication between police personnel and local communities.

The programme operates under the leadership of newly appointed DCP Hareshwar V. Swami, IPS. Police personnel are visiting senior citizens at their homes and discussing ways to stay alert against possible threats.

The department is also using street plays and educational institution programmes to spread awareness about cyber security, drug abuse and personal safety. These activities aim to reach people through direct interaction and public participation.

West Delhi Police have introduced another initiative to help residents connect with newly inducted police personnel. Public forums allow officers to introduce themselves to local communities and build familiarity. Police stations have also established reading libraries for underprivileged sections and senior citizens.

Alongside community outreach, the department has increased deployment in vulnerable areas and intensified night patrolling. Its enforcement efforts include Operation Chakra 2.0, under which police recovered 185 stolen vehicles and arrested 44 accused during a 72-hour drive, according to the press release.

The police also strengthened arrangements at 41 Ramlila venues. CCTV cameras, grievance redressal desks and awareness kiosks addressed concerns related to women’s safety, cyber fraud and drug abuse.

Market associations, restaurant owners and residents’ groups have also joined discussions with police officials on encroachments, regulatory compliance, public drinking and firecracker safety.

Professor Tapas Dey, HR Head at MERI, praised the department’s efforts to combine public engagement with crime prevention. He highlighted the importance of community participation in building safer neighbourhoods.

Initiatives such as VIMUKT and Taalmel further reflect the department’s focus on accessible policing. Together with regular patrolling and awareness campaigns, these measures aim to encourage residents to take an active role in neighbourhood safety.
