AI and Cybersecurity: MERI Hosts 20th National IT Seminar (APRENDEMOS-2025)

New Delhi,With the rise in cyber threats in today’s digital age, artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a key tool in cybersecurity. Addressing this crucial topic, the Management Education & Research Institute (MERI) organized the 20th National IT Seminar, APRENDEMOS-2025. The event brought together around 250 students, IT professionals, and academicians to discuss technological advancements and cybersecurity measures.
The seminar commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, Saraswati Vandana, and the national anthem. In his inaugural address, Prof. Lalit Agrawal, Vice President of MERI, highlighted the growing importance of AI in strengthening cybersecurity. He emphasized that ensuring digital security is a collective responsibility in today’s interconnected world.
Key Discussions and Expert Insights
Alok Vijayanti, Managing Director, Cyrite Technologies, delivered the keynote speech, shedding light on evolving cyber threats and how AI-powered tools can help combat them. Jitendra Singh, Data Science Manager at Publicis Sapient, discussed security vulnerabilities and stressed the role of encryption, access control, and AI-based threat detection in safeguarding digital ecosystems.
During the technical sessions, Suresh Kumar Sethi, Cybersecurity & Insurance Specialist, explained common cybercrimes like phishing, ransomware, and software piracy. He also discussed the role of cyber insurance in mitigating financial losses caused by digital fraud.
Suryapratap Singh, Director of Hacking Club and CEO of Azovi Infotech Services, demonstrated real-life hacking scenarios, showing how cybercriminals exploit phishing scams, social media hacks, and malware attacks to steal sensitive information. He provided practical tips on how individuals can protect themselves from such threats.
Panel Discussion and Student Engagement
A panel discussion was held on key cybersecurity concerns, moderated by Dr. Rakesh Khurana, MERI Advisor. The panel featured Saugat Pramanik, Cloud Security Expert, SI Manoj Kumar, Cybersecurity Officer, and Dr. Shereen Zafar, Assistant Professor at Jamia Hamdard University. Dr. Zafar elaborated on AI-driven cybersecurity research, while SI Manoj Kumar emphasized the need for awareness and vigilance to prevent online fraud.
The event also featured an inter-college IT quiz competition, where students tested their technical knowledge and gained valuable insights into cybersecurity trends. The seminar concluded with an awards and certificate distribution ceremony, recognizing the contributions of speakers, participants, and organizers.
APRENDEMOS-2025 successfully highlighted the transformative role of AI in cybersecurity and reinforced the need for proactive measures to combat cyber threats in an increasingly digital world.
