Delhi Drenched: Airlines Alert Flyers Amid Red Alert and Traffic Chaos

Heavy Rains Trigger Waterlogging and Travel Delays; Airlines Advise Caution, IMD Forecasts More Showers

New Delhi: 10 July 2025

The capital Delhi received heavy rain on Wednesday, creating waterlogging and traffic congestion throughout the city. This prompted the major airlines, along with the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) to give travel advisories to the public regarding possible delays due to the weather.

While the flight operations at IGI airport have not been affected by the rain, airlines like Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet contacted their flyers to inform them of potential schedule disruptions and to check flight status online prior to leaving for the airport.

A spokesperson from Delhi airport advised travellers to use the Delhi Metro as travel through the roads will be very difficult due to flooding. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that there is a red alert for the area and moderate to heavy rainfall will continue in the area with thunderstorms and gust of winds reaching 40–50 kmPH throughout the National Capital Region.

Authorities are warning the public to be careful and to avoid floodplains (low-lying areas) and waterlogged areas, open space and unstable structures, and note that rain is expected to continue over the next few hours. Airlines and airport officials are sharing real-time details in order to reduce the possible inconvenience to passengers during this extreme weather spell.
