3 LoC Sectors Targeted as Pakistan Violates Ceasefire Again

Pakistani troops fired at multiple points along the LOC; Indian forces retaliated swiftly amid the Army Chief’s J&K visit after Pahalgam Terror Attack.

New Delhi: Pakistan opened fire at multiple locations along the Line of Control (LOC) on Friday, prompting a swift and effective response from Indian troops, defense sources confirmed. Following the recent Pahalgam terror attack, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi visited Srinagar to conduct a detailed review of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, which coincided with the ceasefire violations.

According to defense officials, incidents of small arms fire were reported from several points on the LOC, including the Nowgam sector in Handwara, Kupwara district. No casualties have been reported yet.

General Dwivedi’s visit comes amid heightened tensions in the region. He is expected to be briefed by top Army commanders on the prevailing security scenario. It is yet to be confirmed whether he will travel to Pahalgam, where a recent terror attack claimed the lives of 26 tourists.

Meanwhile, a separate encounter broke out in the Bandipora district of north Kashmir. Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in the Kulnar Bazipora area based on intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists. The operation turned into a gunfight after the hiding militants opened fire on the troops.

According to a statement from the Indian Army, “On April 25, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a combined search operation in the approximate region of Kolnar Ajas, Bandipora, based on specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists.” After contact was made, a gunfight broke out.

In another incident on Thursday, a soldier from the Army’s special forces was martyred during a gunfight in Udhampur’s Dudu-Basantgarh area. The operation was started in response to information of terrorist activity in the area.

These incidents follow a series of violent episodes in Jammu and Kashmir, including the recent deadly attack in Pahalgam, raising fresh concerns about cross-border infiltration and terrorist activities in the region.
