Students Nationwide Experience Parliamentary Proceedings While Deliberating on Major National Issues
New Delhi: Students from various states gathered at the NDMC Convention Centre, Sansad Marg, on July 19 and 20 for the two-day Delhi Student Parliament, where they experienced the functioning of India’s parliamentary democracy through a mock legislative exercise. By assuming the roles of Members of Parliament, ministers, opposition leaders, and the Speaker, they participated in structured debates on important contemporary issues and strengthened their understanding of democratic institutions.
Key discussions during the Delhi Student Parliament revolved around education, employment, women’s empowerment, social justice, national security, the economy, environmental protection, and democratic values. Students representing the government and opposition engaged in structured debates, presenting logical, fact-based arguments while strictly adhering to parliamentary norms and maintaining the dignity of the House.
Dr. Bhargav Mallappa, the Chief Guest at the inaugural session, highlighted the importance of nurturing constitutional values among young people. He said that informed discussions, mutual respect, and responsible leadership are fundamental to strengthening democracy and preparing the next generation of leaders.
Member of Parliament Dr. Binod Kumar Bind from Bhadohi encouraged students to play an active role in democratic institutions, noting that the country’s democratic future depends on youth who are aware of both their rights and civic responsibilities.
Satyendra Bari, Vice Chairperson of the OBC Commission, underscored the importance of inclusive democracy, stating that equal participation and representation for all sections of society are essential for a healthy democratic system.
NCP National Youth President Dheeraj Sharma called upon students to contribute to nation-building through constructive dialogue, ethical leadership, and innovative thinking.
The sessions were moderated by Sreejata Ghos, who ensured meaningful discussions while encouraging participants to honour parliamentary traditions. Joint Secretary Pratigya Singh appealed to print, digital, television, photography, video, and social media platforms to widely publicise the event and help amplify the voices of young participants.
Organised under the leadership of President Vishal Mishra, the Student Parliament was appreciated for its disciplined conduct, effective coordination, and smooth execution. The initiative provided students from across the country with an opportunity to understand parliamentary functioning, develop leadership qualities, strengthen critical thinking, and engage with democratic processes in a practical setting.
The valedictory session on July 20 was attended by Abhay Singh, MLA from Gosaiganj Assembly Constituency in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, as the Chief Guest. He encouraged participants to remain committed to constitutional values and highlighted the importance of youth participation in strengthening democracy.
The organising committee, including Vice President Praveen Rawat, General Secretary Kaushiki Tripathi, Joint Secretary Pratigya Singh, and members of the core committee—Vidhi, Aarushi Tiwari, Prakhar Singh, Shalini, Sakshi, and other volunteers—played a key role in ensuring the success of the event.
The Delhi Student Parliament concluded with the message that democracy extends beyond Parliament and is strengthened through informed dialogue, active participation, and responsible citizenship. The enthusiasm, discipline, and thoughtful engagement displayed by students from across India reflected the growing commitment of the country’s youth towards democratic leadership and nation-building.
