Dr. K.A. Paul Says He Stepped In After All Efforts Failed, Clarifies His Plea Was Only to Stop Misinformation Hindering Nimisha Priya’s Rescue

New Delhi, August 25, 2025

The Hon’ble Supreme Court today heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by world-renowned peace missionary and Praja Shanthi Party President Dr. K.A. Paul, who personally appeared as party in person, in connection with the case of Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, who faces the death penalty in Yemen.

The matter was taken up by a bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta. After the Attorney General submitted that the Union Government would address concerns regarding media reporting on the issue, Dr. Paul sought to withdraw his petition. Accordingly, the Court passed an order dismissing the petition as withdrawn.

Speaking after the hearing, Dr. Paul emphasized that his petition was never meant to restrict the media but to prevent false and misleading claims that, in Ninisha’s letter to Dr Paul , have endangered the sensitive negotiations for Nimisha’s release. “My fight is only to protect Nimisha’s life and stop misinformation. In case anything happens to her, I am not responsible, because I have done everything possible to save her,” he said.

Importantly, Dr. Paul highlighted that his intervention in this matter was not self-initiated but came at the direct request of Nimisha Priya herself. In a letter dated 13 August 2025 from Sana’a, Yemen, Nimisha wrote to Dr. Paul expressing her “heartfelt gratitude and deep appreciation” and pleaded with him to seek legal intervention to stop misinformation and sensationalized reports in Indian media, which she said were “severely obstructing” the delicate negotiations for her release. The letter, co-signed by her mother and Power of Attorney, described Dr. Paul as a “beacon of hope amidst the turmoil” and urged him to protect the process until a resolution is achieved.

Dr. Paul also underlined his role in Yemen over the past months. “It was our direct negotiations that secured postponements of Nimisha’s execution in July and August. I remain in touch with all sides and other Yemeni leaders, and I am 100% committed to ensuring her safe return,” but the MEA is hindering my mission calling the accurate account as fake he noted.

Dr. Paul concluded by reiterating his gratitude to the Hon’ble Supreme Court and the Government of India, while affirming that his global peace-building experience, coupled with Nimisha Priya’s own trust in him, uniquely equips him to continue his mission of securing her release.
