IMC Gaya gets green signal: Bihar’s first integrated industrial township set to take off

Patna : Bihar has taken a big step towards industrial growth with the Environmental Clearance (EC) granted for IMC Gaya, the state’s first integrated industrial township. The approval was given by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) for 1,670 acres of land. This project is part of the Amritsar–Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC) and aims to turn Gaya into a major hub of industry and jobs.
IMC Gaya will be a planned township with space for industries, offices, homes, public services, and green areas. It will be well-connected to highways, railways, and waterways, making it easy for companies to move goods and set up operations.
The fast-track environmental clearance that is granted in just seven months means that new industrial units won’t need separate public hearings. This will save time and help start work quickly, and the next step will be awarding contracts for building roads, drainage, and other basic facilities.
The project is being developed by Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Ltd. (BIMCGL), a joint company formed by the central and state governments. The township will have modern facilities like water and sewage treatment plants, solid waste systems, logistics parks, internal roads, and an integrated command center.
Out of the total area, 33% will be kept as a green zone. Industrial areas will be developed zone-wise with plug-and-play infrastructure, allowing businesses to begin work without delay.
IMC Gaya is expected to bring in investment worth ₹16,000 crore and create about 1.10 lakh jobs. This will help reduce migration from Bihar by providing employment opportunities locally.
Recently, a team of experts visited the proposed water supply site to plan long-term solutions. Officials from NICDC, BIADA, Water Resources Department, Forest Department, and Gaya District Administration were part of the visit. They also reviewed road connectivity earlier to ensure smooth transport access to the township.
With full support from both the central and state governments, IMC Gaya is set to become a model of modern industrial development in Bihar — bringing jobs, business, and better infrastructure to the region.
