Ira Aditya Raut, daughter of two Indian Navy officers, sets six scuba diving world records at age 10, including a youngest-qualified-diver milestone
SHAHEED DWEEP: Ira Aditya Raut, the 10-year-old daughter of two Indian Navy officers, has set six world records in scuba diving during a single day at Shaheed Dweep in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
A Class V student at Naval Children School in Karwar, Karnataka, Ira achieved the records at the Dive Tribe Centre. One of her major milestones was becoming the world’s youngest qualified scuba diver at the age of 10 years, 17 hours and 35 minutes.
Her achievement brings together underwater skills, adventure sports and an interest in marine life.

Underwater Challenges Test Her Diving Skills
Ira set records in multiple categories related to scuba diving performance. She displayed the highest number of diving hand signals in one minute, identified the highest number of pieces of diving equipment underwater and covered the greatest distance underwater in one minute.
These three achievements came in the category for participants below the teenage age group.
She also recorded the highest number of marine animal species identified while scuba diving. Alongside her youngest-qualified-diver title and the record for setting six records in a single day, these achievements completed her tally of six world records.
International Organisation Verifies the Achievement
Scuba Schools International (SSI) certified Ira’s scuba diving qualification. Arvinder Singh Bhatti of the International Book of Records adjudicated and verified her record-setting feats.
Ira expressed happiness about the achievement and her interest in continuing to explore the underwater world.
“Scuba diving underwater has been an exciting experience for me. I am happy that I could set these records at such a young age. I want to continue learning new things and exploring the underwater world more closely,” she said.
Family Background and Early Inspiration
Ira is the daughter of Commander Sneh Budakoti and Commander Aditya Raut, both serving officers in the Indian Navy. She comes from Buldhana district in Maharashtra and is the granddaughter of retired Commander Ashok Rajaram Raut.
Her accomplishment demonstrates her willingness to take on a demanding sport at a young age and learn new skills through underwater exploration.

Achievement Draws Attention to Marine Biodiversity
Scuba diving gives participants an opportunity to observe underwater environments and marine species. Ira’s record for identifying marine animals adds an element of marine exploration to her achievement.
Her success may encourage children to pursue new interests and develop a greater appreciation of the natural world. It also highlights the opportunities that adventure sports can offer when participants receive appropriate training and supervision.
With six records achieved in one day, Ira has established an impressive milestone in her early diving journey and expressed her ambition to keep learning about the underwater world.
