Remona Evette Pereira sets new Golden Book of World Records mark with week-long non-stop classical dance performance

New Delhi, July 31, 2025

In a breathtaking display of discipline, artistry, and endurance, 21-year-old Remona Evette Pereira, a student of St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, has entered the Golden Book of World Records by dancing Bharatanatyam for 170 consecutive hours.

The concert began on July 21 with an invocation of Lord Ganesha and concluded on July 29 at noon with a moving devotional ballet to Goddess Durga. Over seven days, Pereira followed the traditional margam repertoire with unwavering commitment, going back and forth between classical pieces such as alarippu, jathiswaram, sabdam, varnam, padams, and thillanas.

By norms of records, she was provided with brief 5-minute breaks every hour, and was supervised strictly by a medical team during this period. This breaks the earlier record of 120 hours held by a dancer from Chennai in 2022.

“This wasn’t a physical feat it was also a spiritual experience. I wanted to demonstrate the timelessness and transformative nature of Bharatanatyam,” Pereira said, attributing her success to rigorous training under her guru, Vidwan Rajeshwari Chandrashekar.

The auditorium of the university was transformed into an open performance arena, with students, art appreciators, and culture enthusiasts occupying the audience seats at all times. The Golden Book of World Records officials certified the record using video footage and biometric monitoring.

This success not only raises Pereira’s standing as a new classical talent but also highlights Mangaluru’s ascendancy as a cultural center. Cultural organizations are now petitioning DD Bharati to broadcast the entire coverage to motivate and educate up-and-coming dancers across the country.
