DPSA-organised championship brings together 110 para powerlifters from across Delhi, highlighting competitive excellence, inclusion, and a strong pathway for athletes preparing for national-level events.

The Divyang Para Sports Association of Delhi (DPSA) successfully organised the Delhi State Para Powerlifting Championships 2025–26 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday, witnessing spirited participation from 110 para-athletes across the capital.

The one-day event featured the 3rd Senior and 2nd Junior and Sub-Junior State Championships, with athletes competing in multiple weight categories. Participants represented various districts of Delhi, reflecting the growing reach and popularity of para powerlifting in the region.

Affiliated with the Paralympic Committee of India and recognised by the Government of Delhi, DPSA organised the championship with the objective of strengthening the competitive framework for para sports and offering athletes meaningful exposure ahead of national and international competitions.

The championship was inaugurated by Dr. Arvind Menon, National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who attended as the chief guest, along with Devesh Shrivastava, IPS, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police.

In his address, Dr. Menon emphasised that sports thrive on discipline, perseverance, and consistency. He praised para-athletes for turning challenges into strengths and said initiatives such as Khelo India and Fit India are creating inclusive platforms where talent from all sections of society can flourish.

Devesh Shrivastava, IPS, congratulated the participants for their determination and resilience, encouraging them to aim for excellence at national and global levels while continuing to inspire others through their achievements.

The championship saw closely contested events in senior women’s, senior men’s, and junior and sub-junior men’s categories, with athletes displaying remarkable strength, focus, and competitive spirit.

Senior women’s winners included Rajkumari (50 kg), Meera Kashyap (55 kg), Naziya (61 kg), Anju (67 kg), and Sahista (79 kg). In the senior men’s category, top performers included Bilal, Dr. Ramgopal, Gulfam Ahmad, Vinod, Chandan, Amit Kumar, Jagmohan, and Kuldeep Kumar across various weight divisions. Junior and sub-junior honours were claimed by Pranjal (59 kg) and Hansh Khatri (65 kg).

DPSA President Parul Singh said the championship underlined the association’s commitment to building a fair, competitive, and athlete-focused ecosystem for para sports in Delhi. She added that regular state-level tournaments are vital for identifying emerging talent and supporting the long-term development of para-athletes.
