Delhi CM Pledges Full Support for 2025 World Para Athletics Championships

Paralympic Committee of India reviews preparations with Delhi Government ahead of New Delhi’s first hosting of the global para-sport event.

In a significant step towards hosting the World Para Athletics Championships in 2025, a delegation from the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) met with the Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Rekha Gupta, at the Delhi Secretariat to review ongoing preparations for the prestigious global event.

The delegation was led by Smt. Vanathi Srinivasan, National President of BJP Mahila Morcha, MLA from Coimbatore, and Chief Patron of PCI. She was joined by Shri Devendra Jhajharia, President of PCI; Shri Satyanarayana, Head Coach; Shri Satyababu, Director; and Shri Kirubakarar Raju, Joint Secretary of the New Delhi 2025 Championships.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Gupta assured full support from the Delhi Government, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the Championships. She emphasized that Delhi would provide all necessary infrastructure and services, including accessible venues, logistics, accommodation, and coordination with volunteers and cultural programs.

The 2025 World Para Athletics Championships, scheduled for September–October in New Delhi, will mark the first time India hosts this globally acclaimed event, which is expected to draw athletes from over 100 countries.

Smt. Vanathi Srinivasan praised the proactive approach of the Delhi administration and highlighted the significance of the event in showcasing India’s dedication to inclusive sports. “This is not just a sports event; it’s a message of empowerment, equality, and excellence on the world stage,” she said.

With coordinated efforts underway among various government departments and stakeholders, the Paralympic Committee of India aims to deliver a landmark edition of the Championships, setting new benchmarks for para-sports in the country.
