Half the Pay for a Full Comeback? Jeremy Renner rejects Hawkeye Season…

Jeremy Renner: “Told Them to Go Fly a Kite”. After surviving a brutal snowplow accident, the Marvel star isn’t settling for less—and he’s not afraid to say why.
Actor Jeremy Renner has disclosed that he turned down a proposal to come back for the second season of Hawkeye, the Marvel spinoff show, after being paid substantially less than his initial salary. In an open interview on the High-Performance podcast, Renner revealed why he turned down the offer, stating both financial and personal reasons for abandoning the project.
Renner, who plays the famed archer Clint Barton in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, revealed that the proposal he received was for “half the money” he made in the first season. “They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money,” Renner explained. “I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount.’”
The actor posited that the lowered pay could be attributed to his severe snowplow accident in January of 2023, which resulted in life-threatening injuries. “I’m like, ‘I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got run over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.'”
Renner suffered an injury in a bid to assist his nephew in the area close to his Lake Tahoe home as he accidentally got crushed under a 14,000-pound snowplow. The accident put him in the hospital with more than 30 broken bones, including eight fractured ribs on 14 sites, and other major trauma in the knee, ankle, shoulder, and chest. His journey of recovery has taken long, and he himself recognized that it’s possible physically; he still wasn’t fully ready for the tough action show.
The lowball offer was not from Marvel Studios, Renner explained. “This is not Marvel, mind you. This is like, just Disney, not even really Disney. It’s just the penny pinchers, the accountants,” he said. “I told them to go fly a kite. I mean, just at the insult offer. So, we didn’t see eye to eye on it.”
Even with the turn-down, Renner indicated he liked the part and left himself open to a future return. “Unfortunately, I still love the character. I’d still love to do it, but I had to stand up for myself,” he offered. “I didn’t negotiate for more money, mind you. Just give me what I got my first season.”
He concluded by saying that while the situation was disheartening, he is at peace with the decision. “My body’s probably thanking me, time and time again, that I’m not doing it right now. But we’ll see.”
Renner initially debuted as Clint Barton in Thor (2011) and rose to popularity through various MCU movies, leading to the Hawkeye series on Disney+ in 2021. Hawkeye Season 2’s future is still unknown.
