Navneet Chaturvedi to Address Media on Punjab Rajya Sabha Developments and Ongoing Election Petition

Focus on contesting Rajinder Gupta’s election and scrutinising the two-thirds majority under anti-defection provisions

New Delhi: Navneet Chaturvedi will address a press conference on April 27 at 11:30 AM at the Basement Hall of Chandigarh Press Club, where he will speak on significant political and legal developments concerning the recent merger of a Punjab Rajya Sabha member with the BJP and its implications under the anti-defection law.

The media briefing will focus on the requirement of a minimum two-thirds majority under the anti-defection framework and questions surrounding its applicability in the present scenario. Chaturvedi will also highlight concerns regarding Rajinder Gupta, whose election has been challenged before the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The case is currently under consideration through Election Petition (EP-2/2025), titled Navneet Chaturvedi vs Rajinder Gupta, in which Chaturvedi has sought to have the election declared null and void.

According to Chaturvedi, the claim of the required two-thirds majority may not be sustainable in view of the pending legal proceedings, potentially placing the broader political developments under scrutiny. He is also expected to address the wider implications of the issue.

The press conference is being organised to present his position and provide clarity to the media on the matter.
