The spiritual successor to Taare Zameen Par limits early shows, lowers ticket prices, and focuses on single screens to ensure maximum outreach.
New Delhi: June 19, 2025
The new Aamir Khan film, Sitaare Zameen Par, is to be released in theaters on June 20-and it has incredible goals to give audience members an easy release strategy. In many ways, Sitaare Zameen Par is a spiritual sequel to Aamir Khan’s adored 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. Rather than directing attention away from the audience, Sitaare Zameen Par is keenly audience-first, disrupting the industry’s mode of traditional thinking.
The release plan has some fun details:
• There will be a nationwide ban on shows before 9 AM to help promote family timing.
• Massive discounts on ticket prices, purposely priced below the average blockbuster price to gain as many eyes on the screen as possible.
• Audience accessibility to the film was prioritized by urging exhibitor attention to single-screen theatres, and TIER-2 and TIER-3 cities.
• A unique clause mandating multiplexes to screen the film 8 to 31 times a day, based on screen count.
The Multiplex Association of India has lauded Khan’s dedication to theatrical exclusivity and outreach. The strategy appears to be paying off, with advance bookings already generating ₹1.03 crore from over 39,000 tickets.
Sitaare Zameen Par is directed by RS Prasanna and features Aamir Khan with Genelia D’Souza, telling an uplifting tale of a basketball coach with players with disabilities. It highlights issues of inclusion, perseverance and emotional development of a human being. Industry sources see echoes with the release model of Khan’s previous blockbuster Dangal, which also strove for reach over revenue, a decision that turned out to be very lucrative in the end.
