IMD Predicted 5 Days of Storms in Delhi? Here’s What You Need to Know!

IMD issues yellow alert as thunderstorms, gusty winds, and light rain bring relief from the scorching heat across Delhi-NCR this week.
New Delhi: Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) residents can look forward to a respite from the blistering summer heat this week with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting stormy weather and light rain for several days. The coming week is also expected to be cloudy with some thunderstorms, strong winds, and sporadic showers providing relief.
According to the IMD, the weather in Delhi is expected to remain unstable for five days this week, with a yellow alert issued for May 5 and 6. During this period, winds are expected to blow at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, occasionally reaching up to 50 km/h. The department has cautioned residents about possible disruptions due to strong winds and thunderstorms during this time.
On May 5, Delhi and the nearby NCR regions like Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad can expect cloudy weather with thunder and light rain. The IMD has issued a warning that wind speeds can reach up to 50 km/h during storm activity. A yellow alert is still active for this day to warn the public of possible weather-related disturbances.

The unsettled conditions are predicted to persist through May 6 as well, with the same pattern of weather likely. Once more, Delhi and the neighboring areas should see light rain and thunderstorms driven by gusty winds of 30 to 40 km/h, with occasional gusts of up to 50 km/h. The day is expected to peak at between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius, while the night could settle at between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius.
Between May 7 and May 9, the IMD forecast says that Delhi will experience partly cloudy skies, light showers, and softer winds than before in the week. Wind speeds for these days will be around 15 to 25 kilometers per hour. While the intensity of rain may subside, the comfortable weather will still provide relief from heat.
Over these three days, the maximum temperature is set to remain around 33 and 37 degrees Celsius, whereas minimum temperatures are likely to oscillate between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius.
In all, the new weather pattern is expected to provide a lot of relief to Delhiites who have been struggling with rising temperatures and scorching dry heat over the past few weeks. People have been told by authorities to keep themselves informed of weather warnings and take precautions while there are high winds and storms.
