New Delhi: Dr Raghav Aggarwal, a senior radiologist from New Delhi, has earned the prestigious IOC Diploma in Sports Medicine after completing the International Olympic Committee’s two-year Sports Medicine Programme.
Dr Aggarwal, who holds MBBS, MD (Radiodiagnosis) and FICRI qualifications, has more than two decades of experience in radiology. His area of specialisation includes musculoskeletal and sports ultrasound, ultrasound-guided procedures and imaging of muscles, joints, tendons and nerves.
His clinical practice covers sports injuries, arthritis, inflammatory conditions, nerve disorders and myofascial pain. The addition of formal sports medicine training expands his expertise in the assessment and management of injuries affecting athletes.
How Can IOC Sports Medicine Training Help Athletes?
Sports injuries often require more than an imaging diagnosis. Doctors also need to consider treatment, rehabilitation and the athlete’s readiness to return to training or competition.
Dr Aggarwal’s IOC training adds a sports medicine perspective to his existing musculoskeletal imaging expertise. This combination can support better-informed decisions during injury assessment, recovery monitoring and return-to-sport planning.
The IOC Diploma programme runs for two years and includes around 800 hours of learning, teaching, assessment and practical training. Its curriculum covers sports injuries, athlete assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return-to-sport decisions.
Dr Aggarwal said the qualification has strengthened his knowledge of sports-related injuries and rehabilitation and expressed his intention to use the learning to support better patient care for sportspersons.

Focus on Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Training
Beyond clinical practice, Dr Aggarwal has contributed to the training of doctors in advanced musculoskeletal ultrasound and image-guided procedures.
At the Dr M. L. Aggarwal Imaging Centre in New Delhi, he leads a four- to six-month fellowship programme. Doctors receive practical training in ultrasound scanning, imaging interpretation, ultrasound-MRI correlation and image-guided procedures.
Leadership in Indian Radiology
Dr Aggarwal served as President of the Delhi State Chapter of IRIA during 2025–2026. He has also held other positions in the association and served on the Governing Body of the Indian College of Radiology and Imaging.
In 2026, he took charge as National Coordinator of IRIA’s Preventive Radiology Committee. The committee focuses on areas including early detection, screening, risk assessment, research and public awareness through medical imaging.
International Academic Presence
Dr Aggarwal has taken part in international radiology meetings as a speaker, faculty member and course director.
In 2026, he spoke at the 24th Asian Oceanian Congress of Radiology in Singapore on shear-wave elastography and ultrasound in sports injuries. He also served as Course Director, Moderator and Faculty at the annual conference of the Asian Musculoskeletal Society in Ahmedabad.
His qualifications include an Expert Diploma in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound from Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, Spain, EULAR training in musculoskeletal ultrasound and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru.
With his background in musculoskeletal imaging, sports ultrasound, medical education and sports medicine, Dr Aggarwal continues to expand his work at the intersection of radiology and athlete care.
